Colleagues collaborating in a shared workplace

Culture

Culture is what people do when the slide deck is closed

Values on the wall do not change behavior. Culture work that lasts is tied to how leaders decide, how teams collaborate, and what the organization actually rewards.

Culture

Every organization has values. Fewer have a culture that matches them. The difference is visible in meetings, in who gets promoted, and in what happens when a target and a people issue collide.

Culture programs that start with a campaign usually end with a campaign. People learn the language. Behavior stays the same because the system around them — incentives, decision rights, the example leaders set — has not changed.

Work that lasts is more ordinary: how conflict is handled, how credit is shared, whether it is safe to say the plan will not work. Those are leadership and design questions, not poster questions.

If you want a different culture, look at what the organization rewards when no one is presenting. Then change that.
